Bed Bugs Are Back

.

Bed bugs have plagued mankind since ancient times when humans beings lived in caves. By the end of the Industrial Revolution, bed bugs could be found in every nation on earth, infesting our dwellings and ruining our sleep. Cimex lectularius, the scientific name for the little abominations, spread at will until the development of DDT in the mid 1940′s. DDT proved to be so effective at killing bed bugs that by the late 1950′s they were almost non-existent in the modern world. Sadly, this was only a temporary reprieve. By to year 2000, bed bugs were back in force to infest homes, apartments and businesses with frightening regularity. One study, done by The National Pest Management Association, found that since the year 2001, bed bugs infestations have increased by 71% in the United States.

To better understand the problem, we need to take a look at the reasons for the unexpected re-appearance of bed bugs. At the top of the list is the over-reaction of the environmental lobby to the use of DDT that resulted in its banning throughout most of the world. The ban on the use of DDT led to many unfortunate consequences, including new outbreaks of Malaria in poor nations and the rapid return of bed bugs. The hostility to DDT also made the job of getting new pesticides to market much more difficult. Out of control over regulation and excessive safety testing imposed by the FDA under pressure from powerful environmental groups, gave bed bugs several years in which they were able to firmly re-establish their presence.

At the same time environmentalists were playing havoc with pesticides, something far more sinister was taking place. Since the end of the 20th. century, powerful forces have been at work to concentrate populations into immense urban centers while discouraging people from living in rural areas. Under the frightening name of Agenda 21, the United Nations has been working hard to pressure nations to accept this massive program of radically altering where and how we live. Using the same dubious science that the UN used for its “Climate Change” theories, the globalists are working hard to pack us all into easily controlled, highly regulated cities. Cramming millions of human beings into over crowded urban centers is the ultimate recipe for the proliferation of bed bugs.

Another factor in the spread of bed bugs, particularly in the Unites States, has been the almost unrestricted flow of immigrants from nations where extensive pest control is not an economic priority

Bed bugs are notorious hitchhikers and when people travel, bed bugs are always happy to come along for the ride. The unsupervised movement of population has been a major contributor to the spread of diseases and harmful insect species. It is an undeniable fact that un-regulated influx of 20 million immigrants into the United States has also had an effect on spread of bed bugs.

No look at the causes of the resurgence of bed bugs would be complete without examining international trade and the incredible expansion of modern transportation. The United States, for example, imports trillions of dollars of goods from foreign lands every year. Thousands of ships from all over the world dock in American harbors and thousands of planes land at American airports every day. The products they carry are then transported from coast to coast in a wide assortment of planes, trains and trucks. Among the millions of shipments of goods, we can find our old friend the bed bug, once again hitching a ride. Bed bugs may have taken a ship from China to San Diego then a freight train to Oklahoma City and finally a delivery truck to your home on First Street. When you open the cardboard box containing that new 52″ widescreen TV, the little blighters dash for the first crack they can find. Then they patiently wait for darkness to fall before they go in search of a warm blooded victim. Making things even more difficult, bed bugs can live for up to a year without feeding so traveling for weeks between meals is not an issue for them.

Once again we see mankind at the root of the bed bug problem

As human population spirals out of control and continues to grow past the six billion level, more and more people are crammed into less and less space. At the same time. an endless stream of bureaucrats have regulated every single aspect of our lives so completely that it costs upwards of $1000 a room to get a professional pest control specialist to deal with a bed bug infestation. People travel freely and with little respect for national borders. Goods get shipped from Memphis to Mozambique and everywhere in between. With crime and terrorism a constant worry for international trade, the last thing a Customs agent has time to look for is bed bugs. Hopefully, someday, someone will invent a simple easy method to eliminate bed bugs completely. Lets just pray that when it happens, an environmental group doesn’t get bed bugs declared an endangered species.

Bed Bugs – Dont Let Them Bite

A Blast From The Past

There is an old nursery rhyme that goes as follows:

“Good night, sleep tight,
Don’t let the bed bugs bite.
And if they do
Then take your shoe
And knock ‘em ‘til
They’re black and blue!”

Kids used to sing this about a century ago and back then they also had real live bed bugs

Bed bugsThen some clever human invented DDT and bed bugs virtually vanished from the modern world. DDT also ended the plague of Malaria for much of the planet. Sadly, unlike many fairy tales, this story does not have a happy ending because some other clever human managed to convince the United Nations that DDT was evil. As a result, DDT has been banned, millions in the Third World are once again at risk of Malaria and in our modern, Western World, bed bugs have made a rather dramatic and itchy comeback.

Insecticides for bed bugs

Bed bugs are commonly referred to as “red coats”, “chinches” or “mahogany flats” because of their red and brown coloring. While DDT was a common insecticide for bed bugs in use since the 1940’s, we have a new generation that has never heard of or seen bed bugs since DDT use was stopped. These nocturnal bugs, rarely seen during the day, have been suspected carriers of leprosy, brucellosis, Q-fever and oriental sore but have never been identified of directly infecting humans.

There are 74 species of bed bugs that are known to feed on humans. Although they are recently returning in numbers after being controlled for decades, they are generally found in over crowded areas with low levels of hygiene. Bed Bugs can feed on bats, chickens and sometimes on domesticated animals, but primarily feed on the blood of humans.
Bed bugs are found all over the world. Infestations are highest in homeless shelters, hotels, jails and locations with a high turnover of people. They are known to hitch a ride on people and inside the luggage of travelers. They are most active at night and because they are shy, rarely seen during the day. To locate them, you need to go behind, under and inside. Look behind wall switches and plates, in and around mattresses and under furniture.
With a large and intense infestation, there will be a foul odor from oily secretions. Also look for excrement around entry and exit points of their locations. There also may be reddish brown spots on furniture and mattresses from their feeding. Fecal spots, old shed skins and eggshells can be seen in and around their infestation. Although good sanitation is the first requirement to prevent and cure a bed bug infestation, sometimes that’s not enough.
Bed bug infestations can be cured using various types of insecticides. These insecticides for bed bugs are specially designed for killing only bed bugs and are therefore more effective in controlling an infestation than other products. Residual insecticides are particularly effective as they help in removal of the problem for longer durations. Sprays and dusts of various kinds can be used. Special bed bug kits are also available, consisting of various types of insecticides which can be used on different surfaces to remove the bed bugs completely.

It explains about insecticide for bed bugs control !

Though there are a number of insecticides for bed bugs, the application procedure and affectivity differs. While some products need to be sprayed or dusted at regular intervals, others can be used twice or thrice within a period of 2 to 3 months. Cyonara 9.7 is a residual insecticide which needs to be mixed with water and used within 12 hours of its dilution. Spraying patterns can be changed depending on the areas where it is to be sprayed. A mist spray is effective for application in general areas, but a stream spray is needed for access into unreachable cracks and crevices. The corners of the bed, furniture, cabinets and drawers need to be sprayed thoroughly to prevent the bed bugs from resurfacing. But beds and mattresses cannot be sprayed with the insecticide as it is not recommended for places where people rest or sleep.

After using the specially created residual insecticides, non residual insecticides for bed bugs can be sprayed into the bug infested areas. Unlike residual insecticides which leave residues and are effective for longer durations, non residual insecticides kill on contact and can be effective for killing any bugs that might remain after thorough treatment with a residual insecticide. V One Pyrethrum Aerosol can be used for this purpose and can be regularly sprayed to prevent further infestations.
The total solution to bed bugs is a management program that includes prevention, sanitation and chemicals applied directly to infested areas. For large homes and buildings, a licensed pest control professional can take care of the problem quickly and effectively.

How to kill bed bugs

1. It is only when a bug bites that people recognize their presence. Those small, red areas on the arms and legs are telltale signs that these nocturnal creatures have feasted on one’s blood. The insects also leave trails of blackish or reddish marks on the mattress and pillows due to blood spillage.

2. Being active in the night, the best time to trace them is when they are ready to return into their hiding, which is usually between four and six in the morning. It is not difficult to spot a common bedbug: it is no larger than a flea and their skin color is red to reddish to brown.

3. Because bedbugs are a nuisance, early handling of the problem is advised. Informing the superintendent of the apartment building or the landlord is the essential first step, along with alerting the neighbors.

4. Professional pest control services can do the trick. At the same time, it is best to launder one’s clothing and dry them out at high temperature (the thermal death point for bedbugs is 45 deg C).

5. The mattress, box spring and pillows need special attention, as these are where the bedbugs hide. Synthetic wraps with zip or seal may be purchased from outlets such as “Bed Bath” or “Beyond” for use as cover. For good measure, the zippers may be further sealed with duct tape.

6. Escaping from the bed bugs by shifting from the regular bed to the couch might not be a good idea. The bugs will simply follow you!

7. To be on the safe side, it is always better to store all fabric into bags that can be sealed and resealed.

8. A place infested with bed-bugs requires chemical treatment by the professional exterminator, conducted usually across a couple of sessions. In the gap between the sessions, one may consider spraying rubbing alcohol into crevices where the bugs usually collect.
